The shootings have shaken the small community of Norridgewock. Many residents are staying indoors and avoiding public places.##
"This is a very tragic day for our community," said Norridgewock Town Manager Richard Arsenault. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families."
The shootings have also raised concerns about gun violence in Maine. The state has a relatively low rate of gun violence, but there have been a number of high-profile shootings in recent years.
In 2015, a man shot and killed six people at a workplace in Crandon, Maine. In 2016, a man shot and killed three people at a Walmart in Waterville, Maine.
The shootings in Norridgewock are the latest reminder of the dangers of gun violence. It is important to have a conversation about gun violence in our country and to find ways to prevent these tragedies from happening in the future.#
